Aunty Mary and all the crew were there and it was great to see the younger generation being such enthusiastic participants in the family traditions. The only young ones who weren't there were the ones studying overseas. They all make an effort to draw us into conversation. They are a nice family.
In typical Greek fashion, the women ate inside and the men outside. With limited English and limited Greek, there is a reasonable amount of listening hard then laughing ...only to have to ask later for some kind of translation. Lefki is getting a reputation for her jokes, many of them a bit on the dirty side.
Uncle Andrew slipped away late into the afternoon. He went home after an early start. Nick had to be taken to sunday tutoring for his GCSC exams (this is over and above his normal studies) and this was Uncle Andrew's job . I think that I can see the foundations of the next wave of the Cyprian professional elite in the making. That and a million other jobs Uncle Andrew does for the family makes for long tiring days, and he's no spring chicken.
Aunty Mary's crew were a little late as they had the tradesman who was meant to arrive sometime last week, unexpectedly turn up on sunday morning. Still, the problem was fixed, so it's hot showers all around tonight.

Arriving home we saw Danae hard at washing her car. It made the others (a silver, a red and a black one) look very tawdry by comparison, so donned my working gear and washed them all. As I was covered in grit and sweat, I thought I might as well sucker-blow the yard...and as this blew some leaves into the pool, so I...(you know how one thing leads to another). Helen had ironing and other inside tasks to do. We are now waiting for Danae to collect some clothes that Lefki wants sent to Oz, and as soon as she gives us the hoy we are going to drive them over to Helen's friend. The 20ft container will be packed tomorrow.
We have packed a small overnight bag for tomorrow morning, and checked our tickets, passports etc...It's off to the dock tomorrow morning.
Will keep you posted. Love, Lily
