Day 9 Home to Chaos. Touring can be tiring

When I pulled open the curtains this morning I could hardly believe the sight. A golden sun was blazing and a low cloud skimmed across the middle of the mountains separating the peaks from the base. That incredible golden light infused the clouds. It looked pretty amazing.

Another big breakfast was stowed away we finished packing our bags and clearing the room. The only plan was to travel back to Chaos, with a brief stop at a supermarket for provisions. Today Johnny took over the driving and Britt had a chance to rest. My cold had me well in its grip and I don't think I was much fun to be around. We tried to find a Codral equivalent, but there was nothing at the first pharmacy. Britt found another one nearby and I was dosed up with Actifed (containing the miracle drug pseudoefedrine). By the time we reached the Adega a couple of hours later, I felt human again..

While we approached from one direction, Will approached from another, and was safely delivered to Casa Adega from the Dubai flight by the ever reliable Sergio. The lucky beast had been upgraded to first class. By the time we got there he was already skimming the pool.

First order of the day was to put through a wash. Socks and pyjamas particularly needed a clean. The whole landscape was bathed in a golden, warming sun and a light wind ensured that everything dried promptly.

We sat under the veranda sipping coffee and chatting for a while before decamping poolside. The hammocks were put to good use while "Henri",  the pool cleaner did his stuff silently and thoroughly.. I put on my new sandals, a nifty pair that looked like a hybrid  of Crocs and Birkenstocks (and coloured a vivid yellow). They were my supermarket purchase, bought contrary to family advice, and I loved them. It was just glorious sitting by the pool reading and showing off my new shoes to the world. Britt prepared some refreshing rose port with tonic and a slice of lemon. Wil had to settle for a no alcohol beer as he had the London marathon to run in a few days.

I was so into my book, that I didn't even notice that Johnny, Britt and Wil had gone inside to put dinner on. Dinner was under the veranda and a lovely plate of pumpkin, bacon and feta pasta. Mumma cat popped by for her dinner and then slipped away to sleep at a neighbour's house. Then we wandered over to the terrace overlooking the pool to watch the sunset. Fantastic.
