 Day 17 Tomar Castle

There were two momentous events as we woke this morning. Pope Francis had died and the Easter bunny had visited

Our day began with so much excitement! The Easter bunny had visited and enormous patience was required to wait for lattes to be delivered from Britt's house so we could embark on an Easter egg hunt!

Britt arrived with basket and the hunt began between the Adega house and the flat. Soon the basket was full with choc chicks and our decorated eggs,

Of course the chocolate had to be whisked away after a taste as Charlie has not heard of deferred gratification.

The main plan for the day was to visit Tomar castle. What a magnificent structure it is, perched high on the hill, overlooking the city of Tomar. The stone carvings were as delicate as lace and it was astonishing that it had survived all these years. The monastery attached to the crusader castle was equally impressive with that soaring central church covered in blue and gold. I loved the clever heating system they rigged up to keep the whole place warm from a central fire. It must have been a magnificent centre for learning and devotion all those years ago when it was first established.

Of course the last step in the castle exploration was the gift shop and the grandparents made sure Chux was kitted out in swords and crusader T shirt. Zak picked a sword fight with young Sir Charles and I believe, came off second best.

Home.  The guys went home via Tomar and the nice cafe we visited previously. Johnny, Peg and I went by... (can you guess?)....YES the Fantasy shop for more balloons and the supermarket for another big shop. We lunched on pizzas we cooked in the oven at the adega.

After arriving back at the Adega, Johnny took the drone out again for some aerial shots but the skies over the terrace at 21promised  another overnight inundation.

Tonight, Ginny is cooking chicken, mushroom, pancetta risotto. This promised to be another wonderful meal and it was SO tasty and just the thing after a tiring day of touring. As we finished dinner in 16, the angry clouds blew away and a golden and beckoning sun lit up the landscape. With the sun, the temperature raised a degree or two and the brave ones in our party (not already wearing pyjamas) sat outside for coffee and cakes. Life is good.
